Red Dot Service Center can suck my metaphorical cock

I don’t usually do this, but it strikes me as a responsible customer’s obligation to inform the public of how much Red Dot service center sucks. I hope their technicians die trapped and screaming in a fire. I hope the people running that terrible business meet swift street justice, and I hope all their children never learn how to read.

First things first, some details so that people who try to look up Red Dot inevitably find my blog:

Red Dot Philippines
1817 España Blvd., corner Prudencio St.,
Sampaloc, Manila,
1008 Philippines
Telephone : 632-708-9282
Fax : 632-522-7079

Don’t bother calling their phone numbers though– no one will answer you.

Last year, I bought a point-and-click Kodak camera from Camera haus. It was a good camera with a year-long warranty. I took it to the beach, shot some shots, and some sea spray may have gotten into the sliding lens cover because the next thing I know, the lens cover won’t slide open. Super minor problem.

I called Camera haus asking what I should do. They recommend that I go to Red Dot in España boulevard, which is supposedly their accredited service center. As my warranty is still in effect, I didn’t have to pay for anything. So I went.

First red flag: you won’t know you’re at Red Dot until you ask the security guard standing outside and preventing people from just waltzing in. There are no signs, no indication that there’s any such business there. What kind of business doesn’t have a sign?

Next red flag: there are no windows and the glass door is blotted out from the inside. From outside the street, you can’t see what’s going on inside. The guard gave me a number and ushered me into the room.

Inside, it’s just a room. Bare white walls, and around 30 people sitting in plastic chairs, waiting for their turn to be entertained. Now, from the outside, you won’t have any idea how many people are suffering from terrible service. You won’t see ANY of the technicians. They’re in another room, hidden from the public, and no one but the staff can enter. You have to conduct your business with the single, overworked lady who took your gadget and complaint, gave you a receipt, and asked you to come back in a week.

Waiting for fucking ever

From the get go, I had a bad feeling about the place. It looked like one of those shady, scummy agencies that made fake passports for a steep fee. But I stuck around, heaven knows why. The power of the warranty, maybe. Talking to the other customers, I found out that Red Dot is a centralized gadget service center for Coby, Olympus, Kodak, and a few other brands. They fix tablets, cameras, MP3 players, TVs, and so on. Also, it’s accredited by SM Megamall, if the poster inside the bleak room is to be trusted.

The wait was fucking agony. Maybe 3 hours until my number was called.

Anyway, I spoke to the lady, trying to explain my camera’s problem. She barely listened. I was explaining that maybe the technicians just needed to clean the lens cover. In my mind, that might only be maybe an hour’s work. She told me to fill up the form, give her the camera, and come back in a week. She gave me back the camera’s SD card and batteries and assured me that they’ll have my camera ready in a week.

That was on December 2.

Last night (January 6), I get a text that my camera was ready for pick up. Now, I have my suspicions because they gave me back the batteries and the camera only runs on lithium batteries– a detail I kept telling the lady, but she didn’t take note of it. My receipt simply read “lens problem” but that could be anything!

Today I went to pick up my camera. I was there by 11am. There was that usual crowd of 30+ people waiting to be entertained. I waited fucking patiently until around 2pm. When they called my name, they informed me that they didn’t have the parts needed to repair my camera, and that I should come back on January 21.

Motherfucker, you don’t even know what’s wrong with my camera. So I politely asked to just give me my camera back. Forget repairing it, I just want it back, please.

The lady hustles back inside the restricted area and doesn’t come back in an hour.

The room where your gadgets disappear into and only the staff can enter.

By this point, I’ve wasted enough time. I demanded my camera back. Why was it taking so long to give me back my shit? They gave me excuses like they were filing the report on the computer, they were endorsing the item on their system, and some other bullshit. But I’m convinced that they’re either being willful assholes who refuse to respect their customers’ time and intelligence by stonewalling them outside the door, or they’ve misplaced my camera.

It wasn’t until 4:30pm and after I used my leverage as an employee of a TV station (ugh, I hated doing that) that I finally got my shit back. And guess what, they didn’t fix anything.

More than once, it crossed my mind to just leave that hellhole forever. Forget the camera, let them have it. But that would only be to their advantage. The bevy of people who were desperately waiting were only there because the warranty on their gadgets promised that they could have their items fixed for free– but here’s the kicker: more than once, I’ve heard a customer say that they gave their item months ago, some even waited for half a year. When they came back, the technicians informed them that their warranties have lapsed, so they’ll have to pay if they still want their gadget fixed. It’s a goddamn scam!

So here I am, writing an angry blog post and encouraging everyone to bring their business elsewhere– anywhere– but to Red Dot.

Don’t go there. Seriously. Let this goddamn business sink to the ground.

  1. OMFG! The same exact thing happened to me. Red Dot sucks! And I bet they don’t even have a business permit to operate, which is why the place looks shady. I also met people there who have the same complaints- lousy phone lines, slow service, phony excuses, etc. Just wait for my blog about this godawful place. I hate it. They wasted so much of my time today! I hate them and I wish the business would shut down so that they won’t victimize other people!

    • Apir!

I googled Red Dot before dropping them a visit, and had no warning about their shitty service. Hopefully, if more people talk about them on the internet, some customers could get a heads up before getting duped like we did. 🙂

MATINDI ANG RED DOT PHILIPPINES THE BEST……. SA PAG PERWISYO SA TAO!!!!!!!!!!

Same with me, i returned the camera i purchased last october 2013 in SM and they told me to wait for about a week or two. After 4 months I was able to get my camera and they told me that it’s battery problem which i doubt because i know there’s no problem with it so they returned it again to the said service center. I got the camera today from SM and I was advised that everything is ok, which I think it should be ok since it has been almost a year now. When I am trying out the fucking camera, i am having a hard time taking pictures. All the pics that I took were blurred, I can only focus the camere when I zoom in the lense. Nothing good happens. In fact, as I can see now my camera has a lot of scratches and dirts plus i still have problem with the lense!

I agree. They don’t know how to value their customer’s time and effort. They don’t even know how to acknowledge our feelings due to their POOR service. I received a message from them, Friday around 7pm, threatening me that I will be penalized for P50/day if I fail to claim my tablet by Monday 10-3pm. I work in the office during day time. I don’t think they have the rights to force you to claim your gadget most specially kung Sept 26 nakalagay sa receipt at hindi Sept 8. Higit sa lahat, GINASGASAN nila ng sobra ang tablet ko kaya nagburst out ako kanina habang pinipilit nilang ibalik ang gadget ko ng may gasgas. Worst customer service!!

Oh no. dalawang olympus tg2 cameras namin ang nawater log. at first akala namin fault lang ng humawak ng camera. so we bought another one. halos wala pang 1 ft underwater ayun waterlogged na naman. i think defective talaga ang cameras nila :(. halos one year na yung 1st camera na pinaparepair namin. lagpas na sa warranty 😦

  6. Anon says:

i worked as an encoder there. masasabi ko na hindi po ung warranty department ung may problema. kita ko hirap nila. at hirap ko din syempre. wala namang petiks. ang may problema is ung company mismo. tambak na mga units pero wala silang ibang aatupagin kundi ung mga big companies. like SM and Robinson. pinapa rush lang nila ang isang unit ng walk in pag nagwawala na. which is nakakatawa. kaya naman pala nilang gawin. pinapatagal pa. hindi lang naman sila sa customer ganyan. sa mga empleyado rin nila. 🙂

I was planning to bring my Olympus camera to Red Dot but after reading your blog and comments here, I’d probably just bear with the slight defect in my camera.

    I am a victim of red dot shit… here’s the story…

this afternon (from the date I posted this) i went to red dot bldg at prudencio espana to have my tablet repaired, the problem is my tab is stucked at android logo (bootloop problem). it’s still under warranty coz I bought this last quarter of 2014, i fuckin waited at plastic chair for about an hour or more (hey, theres only 5 or 6 customers there) when it’s my turn I approached the lady on the desk and explained the problem of my tab then I hand it over to her, I admit that my tab has a minor scratch and very tiny dent on the sides barely unoticeable at a glance, when the desk lady inspect it she told me that the warranty might be voided because of the tiny scratch and the small minor dent but she’ll have to confirm it to the f**kn technician who eventually saids it’svoided, what the hell is wrong with them the problem of my tab is the software and not the aesthetics or the hardware, they just need to re-install the firmware to revive the freakin gadget but no! the lady told me to pay 650php for the re-program. what the!!!! the fuckin receipts stated that “1year warranty, free parts and service @ red dot service center”.

the lady told me… ser user’s faultkasi daw may gasgas at dent.

    what the!!!@#$%%^

i told her… kung ayaw nyo pala ng may gasgas at sign of usage ang gadget para inyong irepair, dapat di ko na to ginamit (i should kept this on the box nalang and waited for this to rot)

ang napaka ganda nyang sagot basahin ko daw ang warranty manual…

    yeah right! whatever!

nakiusap ako na sana idiagnose nalang ang prob for formality, by the way knowledgeable ako sa mga software, kakampi ko madalas si pareng google, but apparently there are no firmware available for the model of my tab. damn!

gusto lang talaga nila magbayad ako ng 650php kahit under warranty pa…
now tell me makatarungan ba yon?

i haggled for couple of mins. bago ako umalis, but still I gained nothin’

total waste of time and money going there…

and by the way the lady at the desk is arrogant and rude, pasalamat siya di ako pumapatol sa babae, I stayed calm and addresses her properly.

so the verdict is don’t go there you’ll just get dissapointed with the service, and for me i’m not going to buy any products that they cater anymore…

guys report nyo ito sa DTI, I will testify also… sama ko pag magcocomplaint kayo para sa bad service center na ito.

    reach me at 0999-622-5603.

Thanks for this post. This is very enlightening. I was planning to buy a camera and I wanted to make sure that everything will be acceptable up to the warranty and after sales. I found out that this company is the service center. and through your post you have confirmed my initial fb searches.

    Hi,

Currently my polaroid phabblet is @ Red Dot. They are giving me 20 working days as repair time. Problem is broken touch panel. I have paid 1k as an initial to panel replacement amounting 2400. Its hard to contact them but I will wait til 20 days before I will make a complain to the authorities for them to be taught a lesson.

  16. Roselyn says:

    Hi Elusive,

The friggin’ company (is it?) needs to die. My son took pictures and videos inside that place with irate customers arguing with that red-lipped customer service attendant with a Nora Aunor mole. It looks more like a detention than a service center. Why doesn’t anyone go to the DTI and complain? My son got his phablet repaired after 3 months. Unfortunately somebody sat on it and broke the LCD touchscreen. Instead of going back to Red Dot to agonize, my son just gave it to me as a souvenir. Darn!

  18. J says:

I wouldn’t have brought my camera there if I had seen your blog post. Wasted my money and my time. You cannot call them to follow up. All their phone numbers don’t work or they just don’t pick up. They will tell you to text them but they won’t reply to your message asking about your camera also.

  19. sydney says:

Such a blessing that i was able to read this blog of yours regarding your experience with Red Dot. I was planning on going there to have my POLAROID tablet repaired. Good thing you blogged about this, I saved myself the hassle of going there and being inconvenienced by the people of Red Dot.

I wonder how they even got the contract to be the official service center of various gadget brands…hmmnn…

  20. Marie says:

Heard that this company is big on scamming people and that’s how they do business. They have a lot of products that are of low quality. I had a Coby that was malfunctioning and when I brought it to them for servicing. I waited half a day until my number is called. Then, they tell me there is no warranty because I had to have the original packaging. WTF?*&! Seriously? I bought the device 2 months ago!!! I really hope the owners of this company will have their names blacklisted with DTI so they can’t do business in this country! But scammers will always find a way to con people.
